It was impossible to read the screen. With that said, I did purchase the traveler model, and it is great!

Tried it and felt a bit clunky to type on and difficult to see the screen, even with the kickstand folded out. Good concept, though, and might try a different device in the future.

I was going to write a quick paragraph on why I find Freewrite Alpha the perfect device for writing flow when I discovered using it for this post I had drafted over a thousand words. I don’t think those words will fit in this little box. Long post short, to achieve writing flow quickly on a device that can easily be carried anywhere, the Freewrite Alpha is the way to go.

I love how easy it is to just let the words flow, and completely stop me from being able to edit while I’m writing at all!
My only issue is the space bar—it’s much looser than all of the other keys, it rattles and makes a jarringly loud sound when it’s released. It’s extremely off putting, and I’m going to have to figure out a way to fix it, which is honestly pretty annoying at this price point. It’s still 4 stars to me because the function of it as a writing aid is just so good, though.

I normally dictate my stories (almost 100%) but have found a spot in my day where I cannot be productive, usually at night when I'm relaxing. I've always wanted to get in some "chill" work but my second laptop and lap desk is heavy, bright, and not conducive to night time production. With the Alpha, I'm able to sit comfortably with my spouse and cats piled around me and do four sprints per night, equalling about 800 - 1000 words. Over a period of a month, that's a lot of words! For a night light, I use an architect-style light clamped to the table next to me. I can draw it over the Alpha's screen and see what I'm typing easily on medium font.

It's really great to type on, and I've had no problems with the syncing so far. Great product for me.
