Smart Typewriter

Such a well-built work of art and technology. If the drafting stage wasn’t my favorite aspect of writing, my Freewrite Smart Typewriter has certainly made it so.

Unfortunately, unlike my Traveler purchase, the 3rd gen typewriter has so far been a nightmare to get its online features to work. It still works, but no matter how many times I factory reset the device, it just won't connect.

I got lucky and it connected once, but the date displayed was wrong, making it hard to find files when both the traveler and 3rd gen were syncing.

Did another factory reset in a bid to get the date to correct itself, and now the device won't connect to any wifi at all. Meaning the device is stuck at 1.5.0 firmware.

Bought the warranty as a just in case, hoping my purchase would be as flawless as last time. But alas.

I cannot give 4 or 5 stars because half the functionality is unavailable to me. But the device still works as a typewriter and feels good to type on, usb connection also works.

But the wifi issues are unfortunately very frustrating for me.

It's a great tool for anyone who likes to write. The postbox integration is seamless. Enjoy typing on the keyboard. Look forward to many years of using this fantastic tool! Thanks for making it available!

I haven't had a significant project to test it out 'properly' yet but still the sense I get from smaller and/or more recreational/trivial use makes me pleased with my Freewriter: I actually wouldn't mind a bigger, less portable version... a 'Freedesk'? With the idea of being more or less stationery: for my writing desk. The main improvement I'd imagine being a bigger screen... and perhaps at an angle closer to vertical?

After all when using a traditional typewriter, whilst you may have focused on the few sentences/lines you were writing at that point, you typically essentially had an A4 sheet as your page/screen... that would be overkill for a Freedesk to my mind, but an A5 or - probably my preference: approaching A4 but in 'landscape' layout??
Just a thought anyway. :)
Also the fact that there were no vegan options for the accessories (as far as I could see: all leather?) was a deal breaker for me and so I abstained on any of these as a direct result, in-spite of being otherwise interested.
